How to tackle multiple-choice questions in the CMA exam?
The first step in this case is to pay attention to the wording in each question. Always look for words such as “except”, “not”, “least”, and “most” that can at times be overlooked by you. When it comes to the CMA exam these words are rather important and this is why you must pay close attention to them.
Answering questions in mind before looking at the answer options
Ensure that you read each question with the utmost care. Once you know the question answer it in your mind provided you can do so. If you can get an answer to the question that way you will have greater confidence in your answer. However, even after this, you need to make sure that you have read the total list of options in this case.
Considering the three-pass technique
Some candidates like to work sequentially through each question but others find the three-pass technique rather useful. As part of it, you need to first read all the questions. Start by marking the computational ones and answer the non-computational ones first. Now you need to answer only the computational ones and they are all marked. Answer the computational ones in the second one — mark the questions you are not sure about and leave them. Review all the marked questions and answer them. These are the only ones you are left to answer now — the computational questions that you are not sure about.
Taking your best guess
If you do not answer any question it will be marked as an incorrect one which means you will not get any credit over there. So, you might as well take a guess — after all, you have nothing to lose here, right? There is a fair chance that even in cases where you are not fully sure of the answer you can whittle down your choices to two and from there you can take your pick regarding which is possibly the right one among them. Here, at least you have a 50% chance that you may get it right but if you do not answer the question at all you give up that possibility as well.
Avoiding spending a lot of time on one question
Remember that you get only one and a half minutes for each question. During the exam, you will be able to answer some questions easily within this period and the time you can save will have to be spent on the more challenging and the lengthier questions.
Reviewing, correcting, and going back to the harder questions
Provided you have time to spare, review your answer and make the corrections that you must. As far as answer changing goes there is a myth that in objective tests answers should not be changed because you are supposed to get it right the first time. It is only on 20% of occasions that candidates change a right answer to a wrong one. The bottom line is that you have to be wise in how you go about managing your time. If you can complete the multiple-choice section within the time allotted for the same you can use the time remaining to answer the Essay section.
If you want to get ready for the CMA (Cost and Management Accounting) examination properly you need the right tips and strategies for the same. Multiple-choice questions are an important part of these exams. There are lots of multiple-choice questions and you do not have a lot of time in which to answer the entire test. This is why time management is such an important part of these exams.
